This generation is a bit better than the others, thanks to improved space, as well as improved towing capacity. While most people aren’t getting a Suburban to tow, it’s kind of hard to overlook the 8,300 pounds. While there are a few engines in the lineup, the only one that can accomplish this is the 5.3L V8 when properly equipped.
The other engines that you can find from this generation are the 6.2L V8 and the 3.0L V6 diesel options. Of these engines, the diesel option is the most efficient, getting 23 MPG combined, but opting for this engine does mean that you lose out on the towing capacity of the 5.3L V8. The 5.3L V8 isn’t the worst engine when it comes to efficiency, though, as it comes with an EPA-rated 18 MPG combined.
This generation comes in 6 trims at the time of writing, but as time goes on, some more may be introduced. These trims are the LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. With these trims, the ones that you want to keep an eye out for are the higher-end ones, such as the RST and up. This is because it comes with a Bose stereo, leather-appointed first- and second-row seats, heated front seats with memory settings, and a power-operated liftgate.
If you’re not looking for the best features possible, it is still a solid option, as all models are three rows. They also come with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen. While this isn’t the biggest on the market, it isn’t too much, which some larger screens fail at because of that. But if you are someone who wants a larger screen, then you can look for models that are 2022 and newer, as they will come with a 12.3-inch screen.
This generation also brought the RST to a more accessible spot in the lineup. What was once a performance trim now sits as a sportier option. Some of the things that you can find on the RST are the 22-inch wheels, as well as some other blacked-out features.
